The Gates of Hell is a monumental sculptural group work by French artist Auguste Rodin that brings to life a dramatic scene from "The Inferno", the first part of Dante Alighieri's epic Divine Comedy. Standing at 6 metres high, 4 metres wide and 1 metre deep (19.7×13.1×3.3 ft), it contains an impressive array of 180 figures that range in height from 15 centimetres up to over one metre. Many of these figures were also cast separately by Rodin. This remarkable object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a vast digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the globe that are available for free to everyone. Scan the World is an open-source community project, and if you have something interesting nearby that you'd like to contribute, simply email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can get involved.
