The Gates of Hell is a monumental sculptural group work created by French artist Auguste Rodin that brings to life a scene from "The Inferno", the opening section of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Standing at 6 metres high, 4 metres wide and 1 metre deep (19.7×13.1×3.3 ft), this massive work contains an impressive 180 figures. The figures vary greatly in height, ranging from 15 centimetres (6 in) up to over one metre (3 ft). Many of these figures were also cast separately by Rodin. This incredible object is part of the "Scan The World" initiative, a non-profit project launched by MyMiniFactory that aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the world for public access at no cost. Scan the World is an open-source community effort where anyone can contribute interesting items they have on hand by emailing stw@myminifactory.com to find out how they can help make this project a success.
