Learjet engineered the Learjet 35 and 36 as an advanced development of the Learjet 25. It serves multiple purposes, including corporate and business transportation, military logistics, and troop transport. The Learjet 35 operates with two turbofan engines from Garret, which power its ability to carry between six and eight passengers in a customized cabin setup. A crew of two pilots is required for flight operations. Compared to the Learjet 25, the model 35 boasts an expanded cabin while the Learjet 36 has a shorter cabin and reduced seating capacity to make room for additional fuel storage, thus enabling extended range flights. The first test flight took place in 1973, with over 600 units built during production that lasted until 1993. As of 1996, the average price for a Learjet 35 or 36 was around $3.1 million dollars. Its operating capabilities include a maximum distance of approximately 2004 nautical miles and a cruising speed of up to 325 knots. The Learjet 35 can reach an altitude of as high as 45,000 feet above sea level.
