Gate Valve Construction A gate valve functions similarly to a floodgate; flow control is achieved by raising or lowering its valving element. This component is available in three distinct types: solid, flexible, and split. The latter two options help prevent deformation of the valving element and body under varying operating conditions. Similar to ball valves, gate valves are not typically employed for flow regulation due to potential damage to the valving element when partially open. They also minimize pressure drop across the valve when fully open. However, setting a gate valve to fully open or closed requires multiple handle turns, resulting in longer operating times compared to other mentioned valve types.
