GATA-1 (PDB: 1GAT) is a transcription factor which regulates the expression of genes which are involved in the development of red blood cells and platelets. FOG (PDB: 1YOJ) is a co-regulatory proteins that binds to the N-finger of GATA-1. This model covers how particular mutations in GATA-1 (in white) can interfere with its ability to bind to FOG (in pink) or DNA (in black), and provides molecular explanations for why this occurs.
