Gaslands Hazard & Gear Counter

Gaslands Hazard & Gear Counter

This is a counter for keeping track of what gear your vehicle is in and how many hazards it's accumulated while playing the game Gaslands. I wanted to try a ball-detent system and this seemed like a simple project to experiment with, so I created one. The wheels rotate smoothly and offer a satisfying click when engaged. The shape is that of a Jersey barrier since it was perfect for my needs and I'd already made the model previously. Additional parts are required to make it work as a clicker, including a main body, gear counter wheel, hazard counter wheel, small spring, ball bearings, and a section of bicycle spoke. The exploded photo is numbered for clarity: 1. Main body 2. Gear counter wheel, divided into 60° sections (1-6) 3. Hazard counter wheel, divided into 51.43°-ish sections (0-6) 4. Small spring, about 4.5mm diameter, clipped to ~12mm 5. Ball bearings, 5/32 (about 4.75mm), like you might find in a 608 skateboard bearing 6. A 38mm section of 2.0mm bicycle spoke Assembly is straightforward: drill out the holes in the print, except for the spring hole which just needs to be cleared. The spoke hole was drilled for a friction-fit around the spoke, and the wheels were drilled to fit smoothly over it. Insert the spring and a bearing, then a wheel on the bearing side. Flip it over and balance the second bearing on the spring end, using a strip of paper to push and hold it in place. Then insert the other wheel and skewer everything together with the spoke section. Now click the wheels repeatedly because it's very satisfying. I added a tiny label to mark the sides, some paint for readability, etc. I might add more numbers to the hazard wheel someday.
