This is a gadget that prevents a propane stove from accidentally being turned on. Many gas stoves use a 'press then turn' mechanism that starts the gas flow to the burner. If you accidentally do this by bumping into it, you may not realize that the gas has been turned on and that can set up a dangerous situation. While the requirement to press the knob before it will turn helps, this gadget inserts behind the knob which prevents it from being pressed.
