Description This setup is a gas filtration system designed for ABS fumes removal. It's also known as an Air Scrubber by some users. The Principle The system draws air through the gas filter cartridge, which is compatible with standard 3M gas cartridges. For it to work, air must be pulled through the cartridge; pushing air through won't function. A blower fan turbine is used in this application because it's designed to pull air from one side and compress it on the other side. The generated air pressure ensures that the air can only move in one direction. The System This system is modular, allowing it to be adapted for various types of turbines. Gaz_Mask_Valve.stl is the primary component, which connects a 3M cartridge directly to a 5015S turbine. To connect a more powerful turbine, an adapter can be printed: Gaz_Mask_Valve_7530S+GAMMA30.stl. This part supports both GAMMA30 blower fans, known for being very powerful but noisy, and 7530S or 7515S blower fans, which are less powerful but more silent. These fans are 12V blower fans, making them easy to use. They can also be driven using a PWM module to adjust fan speed. GAMMA30_Grid.stl is a protective grid for the output of the blower fan. Choosing the Right Filter Not all gas filters will work, but our study on this topic (available in French) has some insights: A-type filters filter 80% of known particles. AB-type filters increase the range of filtered particles. ABEK-type filters are likely to also filter unknown particles generated by colorants or other components added into filaments by manufacturers. Filter Lifespan The manufacturer provides information on how long a filter can last. A quick trick to check if a gas cartridge needs to be replaced is to see if there's any smell; this indicates that the filter has to be changed.
