Gas container spout

Gas container spout

Last year I bought a new gas container and discovered that ALL the spouts on them have unusual "locks" to prevent spills, leaks or overflows. It was supposed to make things safer but it only made pouring gas into my lawnmower much harder. In fact, every single time, it caused me to overflow my mower's reservoir because the gas wouldn't release until I inverted the container and pressed the spout down along the side of the reservoir. I couldn't see how much gas was flowing in or when to stop till it spilled over. What a strange "improvement". I checked all the big box hardware stores, small ones and online but they were all the same. The old simple tubular spouts had been phased out. So I made my own. I printed mine with Bridge Nylon, which is supposed to be good for resisting chemicals, not so great for being submerged in water, so I recommend attaching it outside the container. Temporary flows of liquid should not affect it and that's been my experience so far. As you can see from the pictures, I also used a rubber washer on the base for a tight seal (it's permanently attached with weatherproof superglue). The existing caps fit fine but I created a file for older containers as well. The spout should fit both 2 and 5 gallon containers, possibly smaller or larger ones too (the pictures show one from a 2 gallon container). For best results, use 100% infill.
