Gas Cap Replaces Briggs & Stratton 596250
thingiverse
I own a 21" Murray Lawnmower purchased at Walmart, which runs on a Briggs & Stratton 450e engine. Every time I mow around lilac bushes, the gas cap spins off. Normally, I catch it and fix it, but one day I didn't notice until running over it with a subsequent pass, destroying it. This engine uses two different gas tank styles and thus two different non-interchangeable gas caps. The style I have is newer but rarer. After ordering a replacement from Briggs & Stratton and waiting weeks only to discover that it must be on back order (They acknowledged my order but have not shipped or charged me for it yet), I designed my own cap. I filled the inside with cork to form a nice seal. Gasket material would have been better, but I didn't have any. I'm not a Briggs & Stratton expert, so don't ask if this will fit your mower. Mine had a tether that went inside the gas tank (I included the tether in one of the photos). If your gas cap is similar, it might work. If your gas cap is a B&S part number 596250, then this should work fine.
