Garmin Zumo XT Mount System
thingiverse
Have a Garmin Zumo XT? Have multiple bikes? Have a 3D printer? Maybe you've thought what I've though, but I really don't want to spend like 80 dollars in thingies to buy another Garmin dock system for my Zumo XT just to mount it on another bike. The Zumo XT comes with a single mounting system and it already has it's own flaws in it being a clunky RAM mount clone arm. I've come up with some parts that can help get around this. If you just want an accessory bar clamp, part C is what you need. Holes in this are sized for M4 machine screws which is what the Zumo comes with. The part is designed to clamp to a bar with an OD of around 12.6MM which both the crossbar on my Protaper Hon Mini Grom handlebars and accessory bar on my CB500X are. I've included the freecad files so if you are handy in there you can adjust those and any other dimension before slicing. If you want to mount on a second bike, say to the cross bar on dual sport handlebars, then you need the whole lot. Instead of the OEM mounting solution where the clips reach inside the ledges in the recess in the back of the Zumo, this one just uses the recess to index the Zumo to the mount while the clips reach over the top and bottom edge. I haven't road tested this yet but on the bench it seems very secure and I think it might take a larger hit than the OEM mount would. As for charging, the intention here is to just use the USB port. In the future I want to come up with a way to integrate some dock pins into the mount then just cut an end off a USB cable and solder it in. That way you can get the convenience and waterproofness of the OEM mounting solution while only spending probably 0 dollars to cut the end off an existing USB cable you have lying around. But for now you just have to open up that USB port and plug a cable in. You will want to mindful this will effect the Zumo's waterproofness and if it starts raining you will want to unplug and run it on battery until it isnt. I'll update with some pics and real world results as I use it more, for now all I've really done is clip the mount and confirm things fit. EDIT 6/14/23: Happy to report I've used this for hours and hours on a trip to the tail of the dragon and it held up perfectly. Posted some pics of how I have this mounted to my Grom's handle bars.
