Garmin reportedly offers a solution for the broken or missing knob on a GPSmap 696, requiring you to spend $600 to send the entire unit in for a flat-rate factory refurbishment or repair. They also sell a bag of 10 knobs for $25 (Part #430-00035-10), but buying a single knob might be unnecessary and wasteful. Alternatively, you can print this temporary knob until an official replacement part becomes available. The inner hole diameter is designed slightly larger than necessary due to printing tolerances that caused the opening to be too tight otherwise. If the printed knob feels loose and falls off easily, adding a small amount of RTV silicone inside the hole before installation is recommended.
