Garden Statue - Boy with Goose 3D Scan
thingiverse
We have an antique statue standing tall in our backyard that has been passed down through generations in my wife's family. The figurine is approximately 2 feet high and boasts a spout protruding from its beak, which allows us to pipe water into it for a delightful fountain feature. Over time, the statue has undergone numerous coats of paint, leading to thick layers that are now peeling off; however, this weathered appearance lends itself perfectly to its charming character. I decided to take on a new challenge and scan the statue to see if I could create an accurate 3D model of it for printing purposes. Overall, I'd say my initial attempt turned out quite well, especially considering it was my first time tackling a project like this. To compare the result, you can watch a video of the 123d Catch rendering by visiting: https://youtu.be/lATga58Yqdc Here are some key print settings that I used for both prints: Print Brand: Printrbot Printer Model: Printrbot Plus Rafts: No preference was given to rafts Supports: Yes, the 3D printer utilized supports during the printing process Resolution: .2mm layers were employed in this project Infill Density: A modest infill of 15% was selected Here are some additional notes about the print settings: When working on a smaller scale with my initial test print, which measured 60 mm in length and was made from white-colored material known as MadeSolid PET+, I set my hotend temperature to 250 degrees Celsius. At a speed of 30mm per minute, the printing process unfolded. Regrettably, due to the small size of this model, it lacked fine detail. To compensate for this limitation, I up-scaled the design by a factor of three and opted for a material that was both durable and possessed smooth finishing properties - Arctic Silver PLA from Cubicity. For the hotend temperature, I chose 190 degrees Celsius at a speed of 30 mm/min to balance the desired finish with efficiency. Given the constraints associated with producing detailed prints at small scales, using high-quality materials often helps produce more impressive results
