The original garage opener cover has been severely warped due to excessive heat from the lightbulb. Since the part is no longer available for purchase, we opted to create a custom replacement using 3D printing technology. To develop the new cover, we first used a 3D scanner to capture the overall dimensions of the old cover. The scanned model then underwent extensive processing in 3D Builder, a software application available through Microsoft Store, which included patching with primitive shapes, subtraction, simplification, and hollowing to achieve the final design. The grill at the front of the new cover was created using 3D extrusion techniques applied to a 2D image, also done within 3D Builder. We produced one half of the model first, followed by the second half utilizing the mirror function in 3D Builder. Each half fits neatly on a print bed measuring 150mm x 150mm. The two halves are designed to be connected securely with three simple clips.
