Garage Door Tilt Module for Door/Window Alarm Sensor
thingiverse
I wanted to swap out my unreliable tilt sensors on my garage door for a dependable door/window sensor. The tilt sensors were prone to failure and I'd had to replace them repeatedly, which was really frustrating. I needed a solution that would allow me to use a standard door/window sensor with my garage door. The way this works is you attach the long module to the part marked BACK and the reed magnet to the part marked FRONT. When the garage door opens, the pieces separate, breaking the connection. The compartment on one of the parts is designed to add extra weight if you have a strong magnet or a metal garage door that causes the magnet to stick. Simply put some washers or heavy objects in the front compartment to break the magnet connection. Insert a bolt into the holes and secure it with a nut to keep everything connected. The swing should be free-moving so when the garage opens, it flips open freely. Make sure to attach this high up on your door, but also ensure that it can open freely without hitting any metal objects and causing the magnet to stick to them.
