Garage door sensor mount
thingiverse
My wife unintentionally snapped off the mount that keeps the garage door sensor firmly attached to its metal mounting post, rendering it precarious since then - stuck on by tape and a zip tie for far too long. Frustrated by this DIY mishap, I decided to get creative and craft a sturdy replacement mount through 3D printing technology. First things first, my mission was clear: design and manufacture a high-quality replacement with functionality in mind that could be effortlessly printed without any unnecessary support structures, and also boast an easily upgradable / modifiable design where the mounting bracket part is concerned. As a vital element of the build, this adaptable feature enables users to modify or update their designs in future if needed. One notable highlight of my new mount's robustness lies within its carefully constructed outer housing. The mounting bracket is expertly secured to it via high-strength adhesive glue. Print Settings: To ensure our print settings are set for maximum quality and optimal performance, we chose to eliminate any extraneous raft features, enabling the printed part to adhere to its build plate directly for an exceptionally strong finish. When designing this project within the bounds of printing requirements, our key choices included zero raft inclusion, an absence of unnecessary supports, and an astonishing level of resolution of .2mm, as well as optimal infill settings with 10%. Post-Printing The moment it came out of the printer was incredibly satisfying. Here's a step-by-step post-printing guide to finalize the job: Once the printing phase has been completed: Carefully take the mount off its support and apply high-strength adhesive glue along the edges that are intended for joining purposes. Leave them undisturbed, allowing it enough time for drying completely. How I Conceived This Brilliant Idea It all began when using free CAD to produce an intricate yet simple print of my new garage door sensor mount, inspired heavily by original dimensions derived from actual measurements taken from existing designs.
