GantryCNC
thingiverse
This CNC or 3D printing project features a tool head that's still up for grabs. The SCAD/MCAD Library usage has been standardized, and now it supports Customizer as well. Recent updates include motor mount cutouts, improved cleanliness in certain spots, and a 2D projection for DXF export to help plan the actual build. Inspired by a Let's Make Robots post, this work-in-progress design is open to comments from experienced builders who can spot potential issues. The OpenSCAD file allows easy adjustment of final machine dimensions and provides visual control range checks. End-stops and drive rod connections are currently missing, and MDF is the main construction material, with 608 rollerblade bearings and NEMA14 motors planned for use. Acme threaded lead screws or metric rods will be employed, and wood strength concerns have been raised due to routed out shapes on each axis. An Arduino with a compatible drive software package and motor driver controls the machine. MCAD Motors library from elmom's GitHub is required for stepper motor functionality.
