Ganoderma lucidum - Reishi / Lingzhi Mushroom 3D Scan
thingiverse
A local herbalist recently discovered wild Reishi mushrooms in our area, so I bought one at the local herb store. The intricate structure of mushrooms has always captivated my attention, so I took this specimen and used photogrammetry to create a precise 3D scan replica of it for potential use in 3D printing. ReishiV5.stl is the ideal file for 3D printing, as its orientation is optimized for that purpose. You may need to adjust its position on the Z-axis slightly to cut off the base and create a flat surface. The reishi.obj, reishi.mtl, and .zip file containing the reishitexture.jpg work together seamlessly to produce a fully colored model based on the original photos taken with photogrammetry. This technology does an excellent job of reconstructing colors from images, resulting in an incredibly detailed texture that might be useful for various projects. When I scanned the Reishi mushroom, it was held up by a sturdy copper wire holder, which transferred to the model created. However, I removed this feature in the .stl file, but the obj still retains a small circular shape representing the copper wire holding the base of the mushroom in place. Be aware of this minor detail when using the obj file.
