Ganesha, famously known as Ganapati and Vinayaka, stands out as one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. His image is omnipresent across India and Nepal. Hindu sects worship Ganesha without any divisions or affiliations. Devotion to Ganesha has spread far and wide, reaching Jains, Buddhists, and extending beyond Indian borders. Ganesha's elephant head makes him instantly recognizable despite numerous attributes associated with him. Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, patron of arts and sciences, and deva of intellect and wisdom. As the god of beginnings, he is honored at the start of rituals and ceremonies. Ganesha is also invoked as patron of letters and learning during writing sessions. Several texts tell mythological anecdotes related to his birth and exploits, explaining his distinct iconography.
