Gamepad for Atari
cults3d
EDIT - 18.02.2020: A new D-pad has been added, featuring angles in each direction to minimize diagonal mis-clicking. For improved leverage and reduced force required, check my Amiga-gamepad page for new back pieces. A dedicated back piece for this model is still pending. This gamepad is designed for Atari consoles and computers. Some pictures showcase my Amiga gamepad, which shares the same internal components and switches. Double-sided tape can be applied to the underside of all buttons to soften their feel. Leave the protective film intact on the double-sided tape. Tactile switches measuring 6x6x7mm are recommended: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Momentary-Tactile-Push-Button-Switch-6-6-4-3-15mm-Mini-Micro-Small-PCB-Mounted/263259205523 The switches should be wired according to the pinout in Amiga22.jpg. I used lengths of wire and glued them into the bottom half of the gamepad with a drop of superglue under each switch. A sliding switch allows you to turn the rightmost button into an "up" function, eliminating the need for D-pad jumping. You can wire it to toggle between button 2 and up or adjust it as desired. This switch is designed for easy installation but other switches can be used by filling gaps with tape or hot glue: https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Pcs-DC-50V-0-5A-2-Position-DPDT-2P2T-PCB-Mount-Vertical-Slide-Switch-6-Pin-DIP/323744692280 A M3x8 mm pan head screw is placed under the D-pad to function as a pivot, providing adjustable resistance. The screw height can be adjusted until the desired feel is achieved, allowing for simultaneous diagonal movement. I prefer to set it so that all four directions cannot be pushed simultaneously.
