This adapter fits a Westinghouse 70010 porcelain threaded lamp socket found at Home Depot into a galvanized pipe 1 1/2" to 3/4" reducer, allowing you to make lamps from common galvanized pipe available at home improvement centers. There's enough space in the adapter for tying a knot in the wiring between the socket and the adapter to minimize the risk of wire pull-out. Lower wattage lamps are likely a better choice since plastic may deform with the heat of the lamp, causing potential problems. Be cautious when working with galvanized pipe, as its many sharp surfaces can easily cut through lamp wire, posing a significant risk during both construction and cord exit.
