Galtellì, Castello di Pontes

Human: You arrive at Galtellì by taking the SS 129 from Nuoro towards Orosei. Before reaching the town, you'll notice ruins of a castle on your right. The castle is located outside the village, in a site surrounded by vegetation that has invaded its remains. There are few dates related to the history of Pontes Castle: 1070, found in the remnants of a Roman-era fortification built into its foundations, and 1333, when it fell into the hands of the Catalan-Aragonese. The structure was inhabited until the 15th century. According to tradition, two towers were visible until the end of the 19th century. There are few modern-day material remains: some fallen wall segments that suggest a lower antemurale and a higher perimeter wall, as well as remains of an angular tower and buried cisterns.
