Galena (var Plumbeine) BIRUG 1044
sketchfab
Plumbeine is a type of galena, where crystals replace pyromorphite through pseudomorphism. Galena chemically represents PbS or "lead sulphide." It's interesting that ancient Egyptians used galena as kohl around their eyes to reduce sun glare. The origin of the word "galena" remains unclear - in Latin it referred to lead ore, but no further information is available on its etymology. Galena is primarily mined for lead, but can also be used to create a green pottery glaze. Its natural semiconductor properties have been utilized in crystal radios, demonstrating its versatility. This specimen was digitized using an Artec Spider 3D scanner by Courtney Szanto.
