The Dying Gaul, also known as The Dying Galatian[1] (in Italian: Galata Morente) or The Dying Gladiator, is a priceless Ancient Roman marble copy of a lost Hellenistic sculpture, believed to have been originally crafted in bronze.[2] The original work may have been commissioned sometime between 230 and 220 BC by Attalus I of Pergamon to commemorate his triumph over the Galatians, a Celtic or Gaulish people living in parts of Anatolia (modern-day Turkey).
