Gaff tape is wonderful stuff, but the big rolls are unwieldy and they have a tendency to grow legs and “walk” off site. Inspired by a comment on MetaFilter describing how you can wrap gaffer tape around a pen to make sure you've always got some, I made these tiny spools that hold about a metre of tape. Sized for 2" wide tape, the OpenSCAD model is easily changed for almost any width, thickness or amount of tape. This thing is dedicated to the memory of the late Ross Lowell, inventor of gaffer tape. Print Settings Printer Brand: Creality Printer: Ender 3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 mm Infill: 40% Filament: Generic PLA n/a Notes: The infill is deliberately set higher so that the ends of the spool are stronger. The Mk. 1 version (shown as the blue and green ones on the right of the picture) were much thinner and had a tendency to crack. Post-Printing ============= You don't need to glue the halves together if you don't want to: the tape will hold them together quite well. The spool does flex quite a bit less if they are glued, though. I don't recommend putting tape between the two halves (as I did with the blue one in the picture) as that leaves a sharp gap that can nip your fingers. Category: Tools
