A group of five figures made entirely of bronze is positioned on top of a circular base carved out of granite. The sculpture shows Gaea, the Greek earth goddess and protector, who wears a helmet for protection, holding a father, mother, and two children close to her body within her cloak. A boy in the group is seen playing with a ball while his sister holds onto his arm. Meanwhile, their mother is seen from behind, her long flowing hair echoing that of her daughter's. The sculpture was unveiled by the Duke of Gloucester.
