I was captivated by a Kickstarter for woodcut art that showcased artist Gabriel Schama's remarkable ability to create coordinated patterns in 1/8 inch wood, which were then layered to striking effect. The process reminded me of the layers of a 3D print, so I decided to see if 3D printing could replicate this unique effect. I began by modeling the shape, but instead of intentionally creating layers, I designed gradual slopes that would be sliced into layers by the printer's software. Then, I printed the object thickly using low-resolution settings to observe how the effect would turn out.
