Missile acorns were war instruments used by Greek slingers starting from the 5th century BC and also by Romans, with attestations of use up to the 2nd century AD. Some examples show inscriptions or engravings with information on commander names, legion affiliations, city names, or artisan names, as well as recommendations or incitements to the projectile not to miss the target or invectives towards the enemy.
