G17 Rear Aim Sight MOD (fiber optic)
thingiverse
After unmounting the metal Rear Aim sight on my G17 airsoft gun (HFC), i replicated it with fusion 360 and modded it to fit 1 mm fiberoptic. Nothing much, just printed it on 0.2 resolution and i used normal PLA as test, i guess it woould be better if ABS or PETG for durability. I had no black color material also, but i guess a little spray paint matte black would do the job. As you can see on pics, all you needs for the fiberoptic inserts is: - a cutter or razor blade (well sharpened) - fiberoptic wire ,1 mm diameter - 1 mm drill bit - a lighter After the printed job, you should clean a bit your part with some light sandpaper or a nail file, just to clean edges. ( Both 2 holes need a pass with 1mm drill bit just spinning the drill with hand ) Insert from one side the fiberoptic till it get 0,5 mm from the other side passing thru the hole. Then cut with the razor blade or cutter the fiberoptic. with the lighter to burn half second the "head" of that last cut you did and with the bottom of the lighter push the melting head to squeeze a bit, just to help keep it in place. Repeat all this for the other hole and you are done. I burned only one side of the fiberoptic (barrel side), just to keep the other side (eye side) with the clean blade cut. This is a work in progress cause i noticed that the fiberoptics need a lot of light to work good. For the lenght of this thing (less than 8 mm) it getting just enought brightness to see on the day. Maybe i will try adding some lenghts on the aim sight that will results in more fiberoptic lenght then will be better.
