G1 Jetfire Shoulder Gear
thingiverse
So I picked up a "complete" G1 Jetfire from eBay only to discover that the left shoulder had been permanently glued in place and was missing its spring, gear, and screw. Tomorrow, I'll head out to grab the spring and screw at a local hardware store, but this gear turned out nicely as is. You might need to carefully trim down the inside edges ever so slightly to get it to fit smoothly onto the toy's post, and you might also need to smooth out the exterior surface slightly to get the gear to fit snugly into its slot. The gear works flawlessly. Finding a screw and spring can be much more challenging if they're lost. I visited my local Ace Hardware store, but securing an exact match was extremely difficult. In the end, I managed to find a screw with tighter threading and drilled out the hole slightly to accommodate it. The washer barely fit securely in place. If anyone has any suggestions for sourcing small screws and springs for toys, I'm all ears. I printed this part at 0.3mm, but I imagine using 0.1mm would be even better suited for a component like this since the grinding process can eventually wear down the gear to a smooth finish. Overall, the project was a resounding success, and instead of having a left arm glued in place, I now have a fully transformable Jetfire. Finally, I'm happy to provide this design for free as I needed it for my own projects, but if you find it helpful, please feel free to show your appreciation by tipping me off that you valued the effort.
