G R ? Carved letters, North Berwick Law
sketchfab
Some intricately crafted letters are prominently displayed just beneath the summit on the east side of North Berwick Law, located in East Lothian, Scotland. The letters stand at a height of approximately 17cm. They have been skillfully carved directly into the Phonolite bedrock, an igneous rock formation. Upon examination, various Gothic fonts were considered, and it appears that the first letter is likely a G, while the second could be an R; however, some of the embellishments suggest that they may form conjoined letters AR instead. With limited knowledge in the areas of script, font styles, and calligraphy, any additional insights or expertise from those who possess this expertise would be greatly appreciated. The grid reference for these letters is NT 55666 84232. They were photographed on September 23, 2016, and a model was created that autumn using Agisoft PhotoScan software in its standard configuration.
