G. I. Joe VAMP - Remix

G. I. Joe VAMP - Remix

thingiverse

First, let me say, this model is the product of three folks' efforts.  It is the culmination of my work with parts and ideas from 2 other models here on Thingiverse.I will give an overview and then go through the specifics of each part. This model isn't perfect, and if I had it over again, I would certainly change a few things. However, I do think it's a pretty good representation of the original GI Joe VAMP.That was the goal of this effort, to build a VAMP that was relatively close to the original 3.75 scale vehicle.Hope people enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the process of building.I did include a slight custom version in this "Thing", the Adventure Team model.  There are some parts which have the "AT" designation in them, they will be needed to build that model.Overview:My Work - I have contributed the Body, Rim, Tire, Hood Vent, backlight and Gun Vent as mostly new pieces.Thingiverse Model #1 (Henceforth, referred to as TM01) contributed: The front bumper, dash, steer wheel, gun (gun barrels), jerry can, jerry can holder, turret, battery and behind the seat piece.https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5278347Thingiverse Model #2 (Henceforth, referred to as TM02) contributed: Overall geometry (this one's a bit hard to explain, but felt it was important to include), light bar, winch, seats and console, axle, hitch and front of the rollbar.<I can't find the link to this model at the time of my writing this>Deep-dive on all the parts:The Body - There are three versions - Regular Body, AT body, and Regular Body with the rollbar integrated In general the Body is an all new piece, but is designed to use several parts from TM01.  I do want to point out that a modified version of TM01's battery is integrated into this piece.  The AT body is the same as the Regular Body, but removes the gun.  I have included a version of the body with an integrated rollbar, because gluing on the rollbar while getting it straight has proved to be painful during my test prints. The Chassis -  While this piece is "new", I used a lot of existing details to create it.  The seats/console, winch and general geometry was used from TM02.  The front bumper and the behind the seat detail was from TM01 and it was made to accept TM02's light bar.  The fenders and wheel arches are brand new.The Light Bar - This piece is just a slightly modified version of the part that came from TM02.The Tires - This is a 100% brand new piece designed by me - I tried to stay close to the original design, while also being "3d print" friendly. The Rims - This piece is also 100% new, but since this model uses TM02's axel, I should point out that the hub design is a modified design from TM02.The Axels - These are just slightly modified versions from TM02.  I made them about 3mm shorter to be more inline with the original toy VAMP.The Hood Vents - This piece is also 100% new - nothing much to say here. The RollBar - This is a complicated one, I started out this project with the intent on using the TM02's rollbar, but after working with it a bit, I scrapped that approach.  So the rollbar is a merge of TM02's front bars, but I completely created the back of the rollbar from scratch.  I've included an AT rollbar also. The Dash -  Slightly modified version of TM01's Dash.  The only change is I added a small channel on the back to make lining it up and gluing it a bit easier. The Dash Aligner Just a small piece to help align the dash with the body for gluing. The Steering Wheel -  100% lift from TM01.The Gun Turret -  98% lift from TM01 - I just made the stub on bottom slightly shorter. The Gun (and Gun Barrels) -  The Gun and the Gun Barrels are 100% lifted from TM01.  That being said I have included 2 different versions, 1) that is the original gun (with trigger) from TM01 and 2) one where the barrels are separated from the main part of the gun AND the trigger removed.  Long story short, the gun has a lot of details and I recommend printing it so that the back of the gun is on the build plate, sadly this has the possibility of making the barrels easy to break off - hence the version with the barrels separated. The Gun Vents - 100% new piece, but to be transparent, I used a lot of design approaches from the vents included in both models. The Jerry Can and Jerry Can Holder - 100% lift from TM01The Hitch -  100% lift from TM02The Backlight - 100% new piece from me - meant to be glued into the back of the body with a sticker or decal placed on it.The Spare_Tire_Holder_AT - 100% new but uses the same tire insert as TM02's Axel - clicks into place in the rear of the AT rollbar. The Shovel_Insert_AT - 100% new.  Is use to cover up the hole where the Gun Turret is in the back deck.
