The individual in question was identified as a western lowland gorilla found on the coast. The Museum of Zoology at Barcelona (MZB) cataloged this primate under the accession number 2010-1163. A specific bone from this animal's posterior right limb, the distal phalanx of digit five, was stored in the museum collection. This western lowland gorilla was a female and had reached adulthood by the age of nine years and eight months at the time of its death. It was housed at the Barcelona Zoo in Spain.
