G-Cube

1990 was a pivotal year for me, marked by the creation of my first Fun item on a SLA 250 - a 3D puzzle engineered in collaboration with Frank Green and Lasercad. A 3D systems engineer gifted me an STL file roughly 26 years ago, which I used to bring this project to life. However, just as I was halfway through the build, disaster struck when the metal ball bearing dropped into place. Undeterred by this setback, clients were still drawn in by the puzzle and enthusiastically tried to guess its secrets. Looking back, I'm not convinced that it's possible to replicate this exact design on smaller vat SLA machines or even Carbon3D technology unless the ball is designed as a separate resin item with clever support structures that can be easily cut away. This challenge has piqued my interest and I'd love to give it another shot.
