Futon Dowel Insert
thingiverse
So our futon utilizes a system where you pull the couch from the front and it unfolds into a bed. There are four components on the main frame (the part directly under the mattress) where metal dowels coupled to plastic pieces protrude into grooves carved into the larger supporting frame. The plastic bits slide along these grooves, which is the entire mechanism for operating the futon. Unfortunately, there are inserts on the main frame where the dowels are inserted, and those inserts are cheap nylon - two of them have cracked in our last move. The only online retailer I could find that sells them had only one available, so I decided it would be faster to create them myself. Plus, this method is more enjoyable.
