Futaba 12Z Battery bay modification
thingiverse
This print is to replace the battery bay in the Futaba 12z. It will enable you to use a better battery than the ones supplied and then remove the battery to charge it with a decent charger. It fits the Radiomaster Li-Ion 5000maH battery that can be found on Ebay. There is no hacking out the back of your radio to get this to fit. It fits in with the existing screw positions etc, provided you remove the old battery bay and the attached mechanism for the storage of a screen pen or what ever it is for at the very bottom of the radio casing....I never use it. Also you will not be able to use the charge port on the back of the radio as the circuit board it is attached to is re positioned with this modification. It is safer to remove your battery to charge it anyway. You will also have to carefully remove the hinge pins from the old battery bay/cover and use them in the new printed one. They do come out....carefully. The plug for the battery is an XT30. These can be found from ebay or Hobbyking.com The plug fits snugly in the hole provided however you may need to file it clean a bit to get a snug fit. Not too tight otherwise the plug will crack. If you make it a bit loose then you can always tack it in position with a bit of CA glue. I didn't use any glue on mine and works perfectly. I can plug into it with out it moving. For charging the battery. Remove it from the radio and charge with an appropriate charger.
