Fuselage Cross Members and Framing
thingiverse
This is a set of frames that will fit perfectly inside a 2x2 inch outside dimension foam board fuselage. These frames add significant strength to the entire structure, simplify the build process, and guarantee true 90-degree corners throughout the length of the tube. Up until I started using these frames, I was never able to get my tubes as square as I wanted, no matter what build method I used. Flitetest, Experimental Airlines, or my own method (seen in the photos) all had their perks and drawbacks. Often they had some flaw or didn't come out as good as I would like. The frames made a huge difference. The frames have been thoroughly tested using my method and should work with Flitetest style tubes if sized correctly. Experimental Airlines method is probably not compatible with these frames since they use very rounded edges. The file includes one nose frame section, 2 mid cross sections, and a simple tail frame for those who are not tapering the sides. Note: I model knowing the limitations of my 3D printer. It's old and has a few minor quirks. In general, it's accurate but holes tend to print out smaller than they're sized in the model. As such, I model holes slightly larger to accommodate this. Test print any part and make sure any attached hardware like wire or skewers fit properly before bulk printing.
