Funerary stele of a woman
myminifactory
This enigmatic monument shows a mysterious woman at rest. She sits with one hand caressing her cheek, while cradling a flower in the other. Beside her stands a smaller figure that could be interpreted as either a child or a loyal servant. Faint remnants of reddish hues can still be seen on her clothing and within the recessed area. The practice of depicting seated figures originates from ancient Attica, but the distinctive frontal presentation is a hallmark unique to Cypriot artistry. This intriguing relic was unearthed in the city of Amathus.
