Funerary stele depicting toiletries
myminifactory
Funerary stele showcasing personal grooming items, dated 175 CE, discovered in Acmonia (located in Phrygia, Turkey), crafted from marble. Currently housed at the Musée du Cinquantenaire in Brussels, Belgium, made possible by CapturingReality. Clearly visible on the upper left panel of this double door is a keyhole. The door jambs feature intricately designed ivies emerging from a vase, symbolizing Dionysian immortality. A comb, mirror, and cabinet (possibly even a diptychon or wax tablet) are displayed between the hanger and lintel, items used by the mother of the deceased individual commemorated on this funerary stele. The epitaph above the lintel reads: "Euelpistos erected this tomb for his mother and for his father." To stay updated, consider following me on Twitter at @GeoffreyMarchal.
