Archaeologists uncovered four fragments of a stele in 1913 while excavating the Loredan via. A layer rich in clay materials had preserved these ancient relics. Carved into high-relief, a sculpture showcases a fierce battle between a Loricate knight and an infantryman: the armored warrior on horseback charges to the right, shield held firmly in his left hand as he raises his missing sword in his right, about to strike down his nude opponent. The artwork vividly captures the clash of Venetians against the Gauls.
