Funerary Stela of Sosinos
myminifactory
On the top of this funerary Stela it is depicted the name of the deceased: Sosinos of Gortyn, bronze-smith. Like many artisans, Sosinos was a metic (foreigner) from Gortyn in Crete. He is depicted as a bronze-smith holding a pair of forger’s bellows in his right hand, seated in the same pose as that of god from the Parthenon’s east frieze, perhaps Poseidon of Hephaistos. Such a resemblance bears witness to the influence the Parthenon had on works produced during the years after it was built.
