The vase depicts a solemn scene of a family gathering around a deceased loved one. At its center stands Aristomache, her lifeless body supported by her devoted mother's hand. Her father gestures towards her with a mix of sorrow and pride. On either side of this grieving trio stand two female relatives and two diminutive servants who seem to be paying their respects. Inscribed on the vase are several poignant phrases that tell us more about these people. Above the main figures, from left to right, we read Stratokleia Aiolos Aristomache Axiomache - names that speak of a family bound together by love and loss. Below the seated woman, Leonike's inscription serves as a reminder of the preciousness of life.
