Funeral Niche Rosette

Funeral Niche Ornament A decorative rosette to cover a hole in the tombstone of a niche. A temporary solution while installing the rings that hold bouquets of flowers. Unfortunately, someone stole them, leaving us to find another way. In the rush, there are some differences between the photos of the piece and the final model. The part at the top is slightly different, but the rosette itself remains the same. The IHS monogram represents the name of Jesus Christ. It's a combination of the Greek letters iota-eta-sigma, which spell out ΙΗΣΟΥΣ in capital letters. In Latin, it's written as IHΣ, with the final sigma replaced by an S. The eta is kept because of its similarity to the Latin letter H. In medieval Western Europe and many Catholic and Protestant churches today, the most common Christogram is IHS or IHC. These letters represent the first three letters of Jesus' name in Greek: ΙΗΣΟΥΣ.
