Functional Windup Clock
myminifactory
This fully-functional windup mechanical clock showcases the capabilities of the Sinterit Lisa. It is a single piece with no assembly required, working as soon as all powder is removed from it. The open body assists in powder removal and displays its inner movements. A star and voronoi pattern adorns the face, giving the clock an elegant touch. To use, wind up the bottom spring in the direction of the arrows on the case. To my knowledge, this is the first fully-functional 3D printable clock that can be created in a single print! I have spent considerable time ensuring that this clock will work once printed, including designing and simulating the springs and clock movements. However, I cannot physically test it myself, so feedback would be greatly appreciated if it doesn't work as expected. This model has been designed with Sinterit's PA12 material in mind. The material data needed to perform calculations for the mainspring, balance spring, and balance wheel have been gathered from Sinterit's provided data. From this, the elastic modulus has been taken as 0.9 GPa, and density as 1 gm/cm^3. Additionally, clearances between movable parts have been kept at least 0.5 mm to prevent them from fusing together. If printed on a different printer, the mainspring, balance spring, and balance wheel should be adjusted for new material properties.
