Functional Padlock
pinshape
The world's first 3D printable, support-free padlock that I've found is a game-changer. This innovative lock uses the same mechanism as a standard padlock and requires just 5 small springs and 2 pen springs to operate. To print this padlock, you'll need one of each file except for the locking pin parts, which require two of each. The good news is that none of the pieces need supports during printing. This padlock can be used as a replacement for a standard lock or as a teaching tool for apprentice locksmiths to learn how a lock works. I've included a detailed .gif file showing how to assemble the lock, but please note that you'll need to glue together the two bar parts, plug, plug end, and hole parts, as well as the locking pin parts. Once the pieces are assembled, place them into the body part according to the provided pictures before gluing on the second body. It's essential to arrange the pins in the correct order, with Pin A closest to the top. I may create additional keys in the future for other pin arrangements. Some parts might need sanding or lubrication to achieve suitable tolerances, but with a little patience and attention to detail, you'll have a fully functional 3D printed padlock that's ready to secure your belongings.
