Functional M3 Nut
thingiverse
I'm printing a functional M3 hex nut that meets specifications. Its threads are designed to pair seamlessly with screws sporting an ISO M coarse thread profile. The aim here is to explore the feasibility of printing threads with a small pitch, something I initially doubted would be possible. My expectation was that the screw would behave like a tap, but instead it works flawlessly! This outcome caught me off guard. Since sharing this project online, I've run the experiment multiple times with consistent results. To further validate my findings, I even cut through one of the prints to inspect its threads in detail. While they don't perfectly conform to ISO standards, they still manage to function smoothly alongside ISO compliant threads. This makes for a great test print to help you gauge your printer's capabilities and limitations.
