Functional bevel gears with axle attachments

Functional bevel gears with axle attachments

thingiverse

This modification allows me to attach bevel gears designed by dreyfusduke to axle shafts and create transmissions for rotational casting machines. My 3D design skills have improved significantly, enabling me to redesign these gears so they don't require drilling out centers with forstner bits. Bevel 1 and Bevel 2alt need support to print, but Plain bevel 2 does not. I recommend printing in nylon filaments because they possess flexibility, toughness, and self-lubricating properties that make them ideal for gearing. Some materials will shatter when used this way. My prints were made using Taulman Bridge Nylon and have functioned perfectly. To avoid warping, printing with a wide raft is necessary. Results may vary. I didn't include holes for set screws or to screw into the axle, allowing you to decide where they go and whether you want to tap threads into them. Note: If you scale one of the bevel gears, ensure that you also scale the other by the same degree. This applies only to the bevel gear portion, not the attachment to the axle. You can experiment with this without affecting the gearing. To see the gears in action, visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj3a2G7QZCw Edit: The combined Bevel 2 file was incorrect. It was an earlier version before creating the full-size hole for attaching to a 3/4" NPT pipe. As of November 8, 2018, the file is correct. I apologize for the mistake.
