Functional bearing with steal BB gun balls
thingiverse
I made fully functional bearings out of PLA and some 3.5mm steel BB gun balls. Plastic BB gun balls will also work for this application. There are two sizes of the bearing, one using 3.5mm balls and the other using 4.3mm balls. Each size has a version with looser tolerances for really rigid PLA and a tighter tolerance version for more elastic PLA. This is because when squeezing in the balls, the more rigid PLA could crack. Check out how well they spin at: https://youtu.be/64NqtiytOHI To get optimal results, print without supports, using 0.1mm layer height and a random Z seam. I used generic PLA for the rigid version and eSun PLA+ for the elastic version. To make these bearings, you will need: 11 steel BB gun balls 1 small polygrip or similar Optional: a tiny amount of grease If you want updates or modifications to this design, let me know.
