Fully Parametric iPod Wire Manager
thingiverse
Revamp the OpenSCAD design for your portable music player using its specific measurements. Although not limited to iPods, connections must be on the bottom. Excess earbud wire wraps on the spool behind the device while slits keep it at desired length. Completely wrapping the wire when not in use is also possible. Edit the parameters and OpenSCAD computes all other values, including the pedestal's height for wrapped wires. Minkowski sums provide rounded edges. The design was produced on a Macbook Pro using OpenSCAD 2011.12, optimized at cloud.netfabb.com, sliced with Miracle Grue™ from MakerWare, and printed in PLA on a Replicator 2 at HackManhattan.com. Spool attachment was done by melting spool pegs inside the holder using a soldering iron protected by aluminum foil. The spool had to print with a raft while the holder needed to print without one. John von Neumann's quote about fitting an elephant applies humorously to this iPod-fitting design.
