Fully Customizable Twisted Gears V2
thingiverse
This is the second version of my Customizable Gears. New additions in this version include improved parameter organization, logical fixes and also the ability to add a snap-fit bracket to your gears so they can become a fierce shredder or just an even cooler desk model. The default fitting clearance for the bracket is fine, you may have to use a vice to press the pieces together. The Customizer is great for small projects, but these gears wound up with too many parameters to use Customizer well. For this reason, I have disabled Customizer support. It's not that difficult to download OpenSCAD, and the experience you will have is much better. Customizing in OpenSCAD is faster, and you can use my built-in animation setup. Animation is useful when tweaking the parameters to make sure that the gears mesh well. To animate this model, enable the animation bar via View > Animate. Set your frame rate to something smooth (more than 40), and set the steps to 360. Then, change the "animate" variable from 0 to 1. You can set it back to 0 when you want to modify the parameters again to ensure that they are lined up. Also, set the export selectors for the Bracket (Lid too) to false (zero) so you can see where the teeth mesh. Download OpenSCAD HERE. Note: When printing non-double gears, be sure to mirror one of them. Otherwise, they will not mesh. When printing double gears, they will always mesh one way or another.
